The Chirping Moms

The Best Monkey Bread

April 7, 2015

Today I am sharing one of our absolute favorite breakfast ideas in our house, monkey bread.  I loved eating this as a child growing up & now I get to watch my children enjoy the sweet taste of monkey bread for special mornings.  I have to admit that it actually is really easy to make & it is one of my go-to brunch dishes.  People often ask for the recipe, so I decided it was time to share it with you all!

The Best Monkey Bread Recipe || The Chirping Moms

Monkey Bread

Ingredients:
For the rolled dough:
  • 3 Rolls of biscuit dough (If you can find Rhodes sweet dough near you, I highly recommend using 2 loaves of the thawed dough, but I have not found it in years in any location near me!)
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
For the topping:
  • 1 1/2 sticks of butter
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of pecans (or as many as you want or none at all!)
Directions:
First, turn your oven to 350 degrees.
Second, grease a bundt pan or if you don’t have a bundt pan, you can use a 13 x 9 pan.
(Just so you know, the bundt pan makes it super pretty looking!)
For the rolled dough:
Slice the dough into small pieces about the size of a quarter.  In a separate container, make a mixture of cinnamon & sugar to make a delicious cinnamon sugar mixture.  I really just eyeball my measurements, but I would measure about 1 cup of sugar to 2-3 teaspoons of cinnamon.  Place the cinnamon sugar mixture into a bag.  Roll the biscuits in melted butter in a bowl before placing in the cinnamon sugar mixture in the bag.  In several shifts, add the biscuits to the bag.  Zip & shake.  Place the coated dough pieces into the pan.
For the topping:
In a saucepan, combine the 1 1/2 stick of butter, 3/4 cup of sugar, & 3/4 cup of brown sugar.  Stir together as the butter melts.  Bring to a rolling boil.  Add pecans (if you want).  Pour the sauce over the dough.
Place the pan onto a cookie sheet just in case it over flows & you don’t start a fire.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 35-45 minutes until it is a deep brown color on top.
Take out of oven.  Let cool for about 10-20 minutes.  Turn the pan over & the monkey bread should just pop right out.
Seriously, this is awesome.  Yes, there will be a sugar high with your children, but it’s totally worth it because it is that good.  This would make a great Mother’s Day brunch recipe, just forward it along to your husband so he can do the cooking instead of you.  I hope you enjoy this recipe & would love to see if you have any breakfast favorites!

This is always one of my favorites! Although I don't use the nuts because i don't like them, but I am a sucker for cinnamon-sugar!
