Three Cures for Cabin Fever

January 24, 2013

It’s been a cold week here. If your like us, after a few days inside we start getting major cabin fever. The kids start getting nutty & I do too. These are 3 activities we’ve been enjoying this winter:

Indoor Sand Beach Party

Many of you have probably seen a similar recipe for Cloud Dough. We call ours indoor sand & have a little beach party when it’s 20 degrees outside. Usually after all the toys are covered in flour/oil, we switch to cleaning them in their “pools” of soapy water.

Recipe:

4 Cups Flour

3/4 cup oil (baby oil, canola oil, etc)

Make Your Own Ball Pit

Disclaimer: I’m sure this is against all crib safety codes, so please be careful & remove all balls before they go to sleep.

This one is easy: Buy a bag of ball pit balls. We got ours on clearance at Target: 120 balls for $10. If you don’t want to battle the cold, you can add a bag of them to your Diapers.com order through Yoyo.com.

Fill the crib with the kids & the bag of balls & let them jump & play. My kids love this. They played for a while & then here’s a toddler activity for clean up: practice numbers & colors. I would ask Maggie to find “2 red balls” & she would find them & push them through the railings to me. With 120 balls, this lasted a while!

Shaving Cream Play

I learned this one from Julie. Put out a cookie sheet & put shaving cream all over it. Alex likes to push cars through it & Maggie pretends her Little People & Barbies are playing in the snow. Endless fun (but pretty messy).
