Christmas Trees on Cars: DIY Ornament, Footprint Craft, Drawing Tutorial & More

December 2, 2024

I’m not sure why, but the classic Christmas tree tied to the car is one of my favorite holiday images. It always makes me think of going to pick out our tree as kids and now with my own kids. Once we drive the tree home on the roof of our car: the holiday season officially begins! This Christmas Tree on Car DIY Ornament  we made a few years ago will always be a favorite.

I guess that’s why I am a sucker for anything “Christmas tree on car” around the holidays: wrapping paper, kids pajamas, ornaments, etc. This year we made some of our our Christmas tree on the roof of the car decor. I’m sharing all 3 along with a free printable today.

Christmas Tree on Car DIY Ornament

I got this idea from one of my favorite Instagram accounts: @themamanotes She made them with really pretty pastel colors and pastel trees. Check hers out here: The Mama Notes Car Ornaments

The little wood cars are $1 from Micheals crafts. I painted mine with red acrylic paint and added some glitter to the wheels. Next I used hot glue to attach a mini bottlebrush tree to the top. I tied twine around the tree to make it look like it was tied to the top of the car. Last I knotted the twine to make it a loop to hang on the tree. The big kids really liked this craft! The little kids want cars to paint and play with. These would be fun for a kid proof Christmas village too.

This just might be my favorite Christmas footprint craft ever! I was trying to figure out how to make a footprint pr handprint craft that looks like a car with a tree on it. We’ve made little footprints into Christmas trees but I didn’t know how to make the car. Then I decided to create a printable! (Click here to download and print one). You can use it a few ways. You can print it out as is with the Merry Christmas! You can also trim off the words on top and use it as a card (see here were we cut out the car and footprint and added it to green cardstock). If your child’s foot is bigger you can print it at over 100% to make the car larger.

Once you print your car, just paint your child’s foot green and make the footprint right on top of the car. Once the paint dries, you can add a tree trunk and any other add ons (I did lights on one!).

Christmas Tree on Car Drawing Tutorial for Kids

Here’s one other “Christmas tree on a car” activity we did recently that I wanted to share. We are loving the book Together by Heather Stricker. One night, the awesome Read with Andy, did a read and draw for the book Together and it was a drawing tutorial for a Christmas tree on a car for kids. The best part is that she had the kids draw their family in the car (like on one of the pages in the book). I love how my girls drawing came out. Alex even added a little carseat in the car for Teddy. You can visit @story_time_with_andy on Instagram for lots of awesome read and draw and click here for the direct link to her read aloud of Together with the Christmas tree on the car drawing tutorial.

Also! Here are 3 other Christmas Tree on Car crafts I saw on Pinterest that we may try:
