The Chirping Moms

Where to Wednesday: We’re Heading To London!

October 16, 2013

For years, my mom & I have been planning a special trip. We decided long ago, that the year we turned 30 & 60 we’d take a trip together. We’ve never traveled just the two of us. We decided on London. My mom has never been. I was there for 24 hours a few years ago & before that I traveled for a few days while studying abroad in Italy. As we started planning, we decided to let another special someone in on the adventure: Maggie. She’s 3 this year & why not make it the 60, 30 & 3 trip? I am beyond excited.

I’m always excited to travel, but going to London with my mom & Maggie is extra special for a number of reasons. My mom is an amazing writer, she is also the most well read person I have ever met. I can’t wait to walk along the streets of London with her & talk about her favorite writers that walked the same streets years ago. I’ll also get to travel with her to Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey, somewhere she’s always wanted to see. Last, but certainly not least, I am planning a day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, so my mom can visit the birth place of one of her all time favorites: Shakespeare.

My mom has been reading me Shakespeare since I was about Maggie’s age & exploring “his stomping ground” together will be memorable, to say the least.

Maggie is growing into quite the little traveler. If you ask her what she’s like to do, she often replies “sleep in a hotel please!”. We’ve been back from Ireland for 18 months now & she still talks about details of the trip like it was yesterday. In some ways, she’s like a little old lady & I know she will just love sitting down for afternoon tea in London. We read books together about England & talk about some of the things we will see. She is most excited for the double decker buses & seeing where a “real Queen” lives.

I’m looking forward for some time, just me, my mom & Maggie. I am not looking forward to leaving Alex behind & I’ve been worrying about it non stop. I know she’ll have plenty of fun back here without us, but I’m still a nervous wreck.

So, now to plan an itinerary. We know we want to see Buckingham Palace, Big Ben & Westminster Abbey. We know we’ll be staying at the Four Seasons Park Lane, having tea one afternoon at The Orangery & traveling to Stratford-upon-Avon. Other than that, we need help! If you have any input on places to visit, eat, shop, etc, please let me know! I’m trying to plan a trip we will all enjoy: at 60, 30 & 3. If you have any London related blog posts, please leave those below too.
