Once again, American Girl has done a phenomenal job with their Girl of the Year. This year’s doll, Kira, is fun, inspiring and current. As a parent I appreciate all of the little details that make reading her story so relevant for my 9 and 11 year old girls. I was going to write up the review with the help of my girls like I do each year but decided to switch it up. This year I let Maggie write the entire review herself. She’s learning to write essays in school and it the biggest animal lover around. So I thought this would be the perfect time for her to write her first American Girl review. We hope you enjoy it!

Meet Kira: American Girl’s 2021 Girl of the Year

Kira Bailey is probably one of the most interesting girls of the year to learn about. I was really excited about Kira because she is a lot like me. She loves animals just like me. I have always wanted to go to Australia too! Kira really likes animals, she loves going on adventures, whether it’s trying to find a wombat or trying to find an extinct bird, Kira is on the case!

Kira Bailey is from Michigan and she is visiting her aunts in Queensland, Australia. She is 10 years old and has long blond hair. Kira meets two new besties while she is there visiting, Alexis who is Kira’s age and is by her side “ most of the time”, and Bean a baby koala who Kira falls in love with!

Kira Down Under is a really good book. Kira is visiting her aunts in Australia and can barely wait to get there. When she gets there she is so excited to meet Bean a baby koala that she got to name. Later on in the book Kira meets Alexis, a girl around her age. Alexis and Kira are instantly BFFs! When Bean gets out of quarantine Kira and Alexis are so excited to meet him. Kira gets a little attached to Bean, which was not good because they needed him to bond with Mum, an adult koala. Later on in the book Kira is feeding Bean and Alexis gets mad at her for “hogging Bean”…….. Read the book to find out whether Kira and Alexis make up, and whether Bean and Mum bond!

Kira has so many cool features that I personally L-O-V-E love. My favorite outfit is her purple and yellow jumper with the beautiful headpiece. You can also get Bean and a wombat +carrying case. You can also buy the bush tent, where Kira and Alexis sleep. Kira’s original outfit is cute shorts with a tie dye shirt and explorer boots. My favorite accessory  is probably her backpack, ( it has a koala keychain). You should totally get some of Kira’s amazing stuff!

To sum it all up Kira Bailey in one of my favorite dolls. She has an inspiring story. She has a great background, a great story and so many cool accessories. I think Kira is really cool,really pretty and you will fall in love with her right away!
