Beautiful Spring Craft for Kids: Coffee Filter Flowers

April 21, 2021

Spring is in the air and if you’re looking for cute decor to put up in your home or a fun, enjoyable craft for your little kids to pass the time and have some quiet time together, these paper flowers are perfect for you!

Flowers are blooming everywhere & we can’t get enough of them! To celebrate all the springtime beauty, a few of my very favorite ladies & I have each come up with a fun flowery kids’ activity. For our spring craft for kids, we made coffee filter flowers. I’ll share our “how-to” and then link to their crafts below.

Crafting a brightly colored flowers craft with your kids honestly sounds heavenly to me. Anything that gets me to spend some much-needed quality time with my babies makes me so happy. And on top of that, we also get to create some coffee filter flowers spring crafts together!

I’d say that’s a perfect afternoon right there. Watching something so simple turn into something gorgeous at the end makes my day. I love how you can watch the colors differ from each other and complement your spring decor flawlessly.

These coffee filter flowers are undeniably one of the cheapest, easiest, and most beautiful crafts that we were able to produce together. Not because I’m biased or love spring to no end, but also for the reason that it’s multifaceted and can be utilized not just for spring alone.

Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Graduation party, Baby shower, you name it. I’m currently obsessed with this and I hope you’ll be too after you try making this.

How To Make Flowers from Coffee Filters

There are various ways you can make flowers from coffee filters. From peonies, tulips, hydrangeas, roses, and more. As soon as you add those colors to the flowers, they’ll immediately become animated right in front of your eyes.

Honestly, whatever kind of procedure or design you’ll choose, they’re going to come out immaculate either way. Just make sure of course that you’re being very gentle with it and not let the young children play too much or else paint will be splattered everywhere.

Supplies:

  • Coffee filters
  • Liquid watercolors, washable markers, or food coloring
  • Spray bottle (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Something for a stem: we used pipe cleaners

Directions:

Fill cups with your favorite color liquid watercolors (or food dye) and water. Fold a coffee filter in half & then in half again. Using scissors, trim around the top a bit to make a “wavy” more rounded top (totally optional).

Use a medicine dropper to drop color onto the folded filter. Let dry. Repeat until you have dyed a bunch of coffee filters. Tape 4 of your folded colorful filters together and add “a stem” Pull apart the folds to make your flowers bloom!
