We are really enjoying learning Italian! I hope you have enjoyed the first two lessons. If you’re new, check out Lezione 1 here and Lezione 2 here. For today’s “lesson” I am sharing some of our favorite books to support learning Italian. Some are children’s books in Italian, some are about the country/culture and some are for learning words.

Children’s Books in Italian

Whenever I have traveled back to Italy, I try to stock up on children’s books in Italian. Reading aloud is great way to have kids hear the language. If you get stories they already know (like we have Goldie Locks and the  3 Bears) it’s easier for them to follow along. It’s not easy to find children’s books in Italian in store in the US but I have found more and more listed on Amazon lately.

  • La Giornata Di Elmer
  • I Colori di Elmer
  • Ottavia e i Gatti di Roma – Octavia and the Cats of Rome
  • Ti voglio bene, mamma I Love My Mom

Books about Italy and Italian Cities

Books about Italy are important too. It’s a great to learn about the country, culture, etc.

  • Living in Italy
  • Zoe Sophia’s Scrapbook: An Adventure in Venice
  • Strega Nona
  • Strega Nona Harvest

Italian Word Books

These Italian word books have been an awesome resource. I’ve used them along with the lessons (like in the animal lesson) and they’re an easy way for kids to learn more words and practice.

  • Italian Picture Word Book
  • First Thousand Words in Italian (Usborne Book)
  • The Toddler’s Handbook: Bilingual (English / Italian)
  • Getting to Know Italy and Italian
  • Italian Picture Dictionary (Let’s Learn…Picture Dictionary)
  • Let’s Learn Italian Coloring Book (Let’s Learn Coloring Books)
  • My First Bilingual Books: there’s “La Casa”, “i Colori” and more

We’ll be back next with with a lesson on counting in Italian. Ciao!
