Simple Italian Lessons for Kids: Lezione 2

January 18, 2018

Ciao! If you’re new here, be sure to visit Lezione 1, for an intro to these lessons and to print the first sheet. The first lesson has a free printable Italian flag and coloring sheet. It also has a fun worksheet that shares some intro words like hello, goodbye, my name is, etc. Today we are continuing our Simple Italian Lessons for Kids with Lezione 2 which learning animals in Italian. It might not seem like the “next most important” thing to learn in another language but my kids love animals and I knew that this would really keep them excited about learning Italian. I also knew they’s want to learn as many animals as possible, so for this lesson there are two sets of worksheets. They are exactly the same, just different animals to learn! See below to download and print the free Italian worksheets for kids.

Lezione 2: Gli Animali

After the worksheets, we went over the animals page in First Thousand Words in Italian. Then I had them write down a few animals and draw a picture in their notebooks.

Last, we played a Gli Animali (the animals) matching game. I found several of their animal figurines and wrote the word for that animal in Italian on a piece of paper. They lined up the cards and then placed the correct animal on each one. They really enjoyed the game and have played several times since. It’s fun, easy and you can just make the cards based on what animal figures you already have at home.

For the worksheets, as I mentioned in the intro, all directions are in Italian. So a translation:

  • Parla e scrivi: Say and write the name of each animal
  • Accoppiare: Match the animal to their name
