Using Cricut for a Fun DIY Ornament Project for Tweens

December 2, 2021

This post was sponsored by Cricut.

The holidays are officially here and you might be on the hunt for some fun projects to keep the young ones entertained and also make this season more memorable for them. Check out these fun DIY ornaments for tweens!

I have been making crafts with my girls during the holidays since they were toddlers. As they grow, I try to think of projects that will still get them excited to craft with me. They think my Cricut is really cool so I came up with a craft using the Cricut for them. We did a fun DIY ornament project for tweens.

How to use Cricut for DIY Ornaments for Tweens

Supplies:

  1. Cricut: We used the Cricut Maker 3 but you could also use Cricut Joy for a simple project like this.
  2. Blank ornaments: We loved the wood slice ornaments and the ceramic ornaments for this project
  3. Smart Vinyl

Creating the Designs

First, we sat down together at my laptop and went through the images in the Cricut Design Space that they’d like to add to ornaments. We added a whole assortment.

Creating them with Cricut Maker 3

To create them, we used the Cricut Maker 3. I love that we can get Smart Vinyl for this machine and not have to worry about using a mat. My girls are even able to help me load the vinyl. We used permanent red and green vinyl but we want to make some more and use some of the Shimmer Smart Vinyl.

Letting the Tweens start crafting

Once all of the designs are printed out on the Smart Vinyl the tweens can easily peel off the ones they like and add them to the ornaments.

I love the look of the red & green vinyl on the wood slice ornaments. We also had some plain white ceramic ornaments so we made a few on those as well. For more gift ideas that are easy to use these same designs, there are blank coasters you can get right on the Cricut site.

These are such a fun project for tweens to make for their friends. My girls have a list of friends they want to give gifts to this year. Making these are a fun and inexpensive way for them to give really nice gifts to their friends. We made this “best friends” ornament and they can wait to give them out!

We enjoyed how we created and maintained these ornaments and how they’ve become a staple at home during the holidays.

Yes, it’s super fun and also adds a nice twist to Christmas crafts!

I am a hundred percent sure that these tree ornaments will keep the young ones busy while you finish your house chores for the day or cook the meals for the night.

I hope you try to make this easy and fun ornament project for teens so you can see for yourself how much we’ve thoroughly overused this craft idea. You can also add pom poms for a twist on the designs if you’d like.

Let me know how these DIY Christmas ornaments go for you!

Pin this Cricut post for later!
