DIY Mini Spring Play Dough Kits

March 23, 2021

You’ve probably seen those sensory playdough kits online and think that they’re so cute. However, they can get quite pricey especially if you have more than one kid around. Learn how to make homemade playdough today, spring-themed of course!

We love playdough kits in our house & ALL of my kids will sit & play with them so I love getting them for different holidays/seasons because I know they’ll be put to use. BUT this spring I decided to try and make a mini kit to save $ and also make them compact enough to throw in my suitcase.

Seeing those sensory playdough’s price didn’t feel justified for me so I decided to make one myself for my little kids. We do various crafts and activities at home and I for sure will not let the chance to make DIY spring play dough for kids.

Playdough kits like this one where each item is systematically placed in one repository are one of the preeminent ways for quiet time, independent play while mommy has to get something done for the day when she’s sick, or simply when you need a ready to go spring-themed play dough kit for when friends come over.

One great thing about making playdough kits is that there are so many ways that you can use them. Of course, we did the Spring theme for this one but you don’t have to limit yourself to only this kind of design or use.

They can range from an eccentric DIY gift to a friend, a homeschool activity, fine motor activity, or simply just a toy for all those who love play dough and want one for themselves.

You can also search through your craft supplies at home, in your kitchen, or desk and drawers and look for some small plastic animals or bugs, small erasers, beads, baubles, buttons, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, small rocks, shells, etc. The possibilities for the materials to use are endless!

If you want to know how I made these DIY mini play dough kits in minutes, keep on reading. As an early childhood teacher and lover of crafts, any kind of sensory activity that encourages my kids to use their fine motor movements with the cuteness of this play dough recipe sounds like magic to me!

Easy Homemade Play Dough Kit

1. The containers are $1 from Micheals
2. This dough is 1 container of Play-doh brand $1
3. The spring accessories are all from Hobby Lobby & 40% off. One package of each makes at least 3-4 of these mini kits

Note: I wrapped the dough in saran wrap so it would stay soft but also fit in the kit.

If you don’t have the time to create your recipe for playdough, this is an easy alternative that won’t cause you an arm and a leg to buy! Let me know how this goes for you in the comments.
