Does anyone else feel like this winter has been exceptionally cold? Where we live, many days feel so cold we don’t want to leave the house.  Most afternoons we start to go pretty stir crazy. I’ve tried to come up with some fun crafts & activities to fill our housebound days. Lately, my girls love everything related to princesses, castles & dress up. One afternoon, we had a particularly wild dance party that left one little princess with a broken wand & crown. You could imagine the tears that came along with that. That night, I tried to think of a way to make some new princess accessories from items we had at home. I had just bought a bag of “jewels” for another project, so we were pretty set for a day of royal crafts.

Both of my girls had fun making these crafts & also playing with them the rest of the day. These would be perfect for a little girl’s birthday party.

DIY Tiara

I made these for my girls. For older kids, they could probably make themselves.

Supplies: gold and/or silver pipe cleaners

Directions: Twist 2 pipe cleaners together. Twist another 2 together. This makes the tiara more sturdy. Next twist the 2 pieces (made from 4 pipe cleaners) together at the ends to make a circle.

Take more pipe cleaners & twist & bend around the base of the tiara to make the “points”.

DIY Wand

These my girls were able to make with just a little assistance.

Supplies: Large popsicle sticks, ribbon, glue, gems

Directions: Decorate popsicle stick with gems. At the top glue on about 3 pieces of ribbon per side. Cover the top of the ribbon (where the glue is) with a large gem.

DIY Crown

For my girls, I assembled the crown & then they decorated them.

Supplies: Cardstock or construction paper, stapler, sparkly foam (preferable with a sticker back), gems or foam stickers to decorate

Directions: Cut 2 strips of cardstock & staple together to make a circle that fits the size of the child’s head. On the foam, trace the shape of the front of a crown (see picture). Cut it out & stick onto the cardstock circle/crown. Decorate & wear!
