DIY Toy Story Group Costume

Are you and your little ones big fans of the beloved Toy Story movies? If so, why not bring the magic of Andy’s room to life with a DIY Toy Story group costume!

Whether you’re planning for Halloween, a themed party, or just want to have some fun dress-up time with your kids, this costume idea is sure to make everyone smile. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through creating adorable and budget-friendly costume

How To Make Your Easy DIY Toy Story Costume

Each year with our DIY costumes, I like to make one full group costume. Last year was The Addams Family and the year before that Cruella and Dalmations. This year, we were inspired by a family favorite movie: Toy Story.

We had so much fun with these DIY Toy Story group costumes. They were easy, colorful and made us happy to wear while listening to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”.

DIY Toy Story Group Costume

DIY Woody Costume

“There’s a snake in my boots!” Woody is an adorable classing for this Toy Story group costume. It’s so easy to make and one that will likely be worn more than once!

Supplies:
  • Long Sleeve Tee in Dandelion
  • Jeans
  • Red Sharpie
  • 12″ piece of ribbon (longer for an older child)
  • Ring (I found one at the craft store or make one out of pipe cleaners)
  • Red Bandanna
  • Cowboy Hat
  • Other accessories: cowboy belt, vest, boots

Directions:
Lay the yellow shirt flat. Put something inside of it to hold it straight. I used a piece of cardboard box. Using a ruler or straight edge, make the yellow shirt into Woody’s checkered shirt using the red Sharpie.

Tie the ribbon to the ring and then cut a very small hole in the back of the shirt. Slide the ribbon in and then knot it a few times on the other side of the hole so it stays in place.

Last add the rest of your cowboy outfit: jeans, hat, etc and you’re ready to go!

DIY Buzz Lightyear Costume

“To Infinity and Beyond!” This Buzz Lightyear DIY costume is colorful and fun!

Supplies:
  • Purple Hooded Sweatshirt
  • White leggings
  • White Tee
  • Cardboard
  • Foam Sheets: line green and white
  • Glitter sheet of cardstock or foam
  • Sticky Felt Sheets: purple, red, lime green
  • Hot glue
  • Sticky velcro
Directions:
For Buzz’s Outfit: On the tshirt, create Buzz’s control panel with the lime foam and sticky felt. Follow the photo below. Use the glittery paper or foam to make the “belt”. All of this should be glued onto the tee shirt. Layer the white tee over the purple hooded sweatshirt and white leggings.

For Buzz’s Boots: Cut 2 strips of white foam just long enough to wrap around the child’s calf. Glue strips of lime green felt on the bottom of the white pieces of foam. Using a small piece of sticky velcro, stick it to the top of the ends of the foam strip you when you wrap them around the child’s calf you can now “open and close” the boot.

For Buzz’s Wings: Cut out 2 rectangle pieces of cardboard. Cut out a piece of white foam the same size and glue it to the cardboard. Use the various colors of sticky felt and foam to follow the pattern below. Attach the wings to the back of the white tee using long strips of sticky velcro. Then you can easily take the wings on and off. Use strips in at least 2 spots along the wings to they don’t fall off.

Now, prepare for take off!

DIY Slinky Dog Costume

This DIY Slinky Dog Toy Story Costume is easy, comfortable and adorable!

DIY Toy Story Costume for Group- Slinky Dog Costume

Supplies:
  • Brown pajamas
  • Light brown and dark brown construction paper
  • Metal coil (we used a package of metal duct)
  • Ears: we used pigtails! But if you want to make dog ears grab a headband & brown felt
  • Eye liner pencil or black face paint
  • Brown sticky felt sheet
Directions: What’s more comfy than wearing pajamas?! Add ears by making 2 high pigtails like we did OR you can cut out 2 dog ears from brown felt and glue them to a headband. Use the eyeliner pencil or face paint to paint a dog nose on the child’s face.

Option: use red face paint to make a tongue hanging out too. Now slinky dog needs a slinky: We used a duct (found at hardware store) and pulled off the excess so just the slinky/wire part was left. Cut out a tail from the light brown paper and 2 dog feet from the dark brown paper and glue them to the wire. Now Slinky has his hind legs! Attach the “slinky” to the pajamas by poking the wire through the pajama shirt.

Cut a small piece from the brown sticky felt sheet and place it over the metal on the inside of the shirt so it doesn’t poke your child. Then use the rest of the sticky brown felt to secure the “slinky” to to the shirt and stick is right across their back.

Bonus: If you love Slinky Dog as much as we do, check out this adorable Slinky Dog Craft!

DIY Toy Story Alien Costume

The aliens are one of our favorite parts of Toy Story so we had to include them in our DIY Toy Story group costume!

Supplies:
  • Blue Cozy Dress (or use a blue short for a boy)
  • Green leggings
  • Green ribbon
  • Plastic headband
  • Green paint
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Pack of styrofoam balls
  • Green foam sheet
  • Black Sharpie
Toy Story Costume Alien

Directions:
Pair the blue dress with the green leggings and use the green ribbon to tie as a belt. For the headband, start by painting the headband green and also one of the styrofoam balls.

One 3 of the other styrofoam balls, draw a black circle with the marker in the center to make it look like an eyeball. Take 2 green pipe cleaners and  twist them around the top center of the headband.

At the top, poke the pipe cleaner into the styrofoam ball you painted green. Glue the 3 “eyes” onto the headband (I used hot glue). Last step, cut out 2 alien ears from the green foam sheet and glue those onto the headband too.

DIY Bo Peep Costume

DIY Toy Story Group Costume Bo Peep

  • blue fabric
  • white ribbon
  • Pink bonnet (found ours on Etsy)
  • Blue pantaloons (found on Etsy)
  • Staff (the Toy Story one from Amazon)

  • Pink sticky felt

Directions: Lay the pink leotard flat and measure out blue fabric to fit down the center. Using hot glue, attach it to the leotard. Glue on the white ribbon in a criss cross pattern with hot glue. Cut out circles from the pink sticky felt and stick them around the tutu. Last, find a sheep 😉
