Holiday Parties for Kids: How to Host an Elf Dinner

December 15, 2017

By: Courtney Byrne

This year the kids watched the movie Elf for first time. They thought it was absolutely hysterical. Their favorite part is how Elf eats all sugar. We heard about an Elf dinner, where kids got to eat their spaghetti just like Buddy the Elf: covered in chocolate syrup, candy, etc. So this year we decided to host an Elf Dinner. It was messy, loud and a whole lot of fun (picture 15+ little elves ranging from 1-10 eating sugar). This is a party we will definitely host again.

Here’s how to host an Elf Dinner:

Food for an Elf Dinner

Well if you’ve seen the movie Elf, you know what to serve: “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.” – Buddy

We followed Buddy’s lead and had candy, candy corn, candy canes, marshmallows, maple syrup and chocolate syrup on the table. Then each child got a big plate of spaghetti. Some kids ate the spaghetti plain and then enjoyed the sweets after while others went to work covering their spaghetti in syrup and goodies just like Buddy the Elf. The kids were giggling and having fun with the creations. I also got bags of sliced apples and a few other fruits and veggies to pass out while the sugar mayhem was going on.

Yes, it’s quite gross to see spaghetti covered in chocolate syrup and even crazier to see kids eating it, but hey it’s the holidays and one time a year that they get to eat like an Elf…. so just try and ignore the mess and laugh!

Decor for an Elf Dinner Party

An Elf Dinner is just about the easiest party to decorate for because all you need is paper and tape! I decorated the room like Buddy decorated in the movie: using paper snowflakes (cut from white copy paper) and paper chains. It was easy and very inexpensive. I was going to just leave it up for the party but now we are kind of loving our Elf inspired dinning room decor for the holiday season. The fun elf paper products (plates, napkins, etc) are from Oriental Trading.

One other piece of decor I added was a printable I made with an Elf movie quote. Click here for the free printable.

Elf Crafts & Elf Hats

I set up a table with some “Elf attire” and crafts for the kids to do. There was a basket of elf hats and elf hat headbands. For the crafts, we had Elf Scratch Art Ornaments and these fun Elf Foam Craft Kits.

All of the elf attire and crafts are from Oriental Trading. The crafts were both super easy and the kids could do them on their own. They came out really cute!

Elf Party Favors

Our guests got to take home an elf buddy of their own. These elves were a huge hit with the kids and a special treat for them to take home during the Christmas season. We also had fun little elf lollipops. Both favors were from Oriental Trading as well.

We’ve had a lot of holiday parties over their years and I think this was our favorite yet. The kids are already asking if we can have an Elf Dinner every year.

“The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.”       – Buddy

Disclosure: We were not compensated for this post. We do however receive items from Oriental Trading for the purpose of review. As always, all opinions are our own.
