A few months ago Grammy came to watch the kids and Tom and I escaped for a Parent’s Getaway. It had been four years since we last went on vacation without the kids and the first time we left all four kids. When we went on our first Parent’s Getaway four years ago we said “we have to do this more often!” but somehow the years flew by… oh and we had 2 kids in between! So as Tom’s 40th birthday approached we decided it was really time to plan a trip and take some time to relax without the kids. Now it was time to pick a spot to go….

I wanted a place that was going to be warm and we could relax by a pool. That was our #1. We also wanted a spot far enough that we felt like we were really “getting away” but not so far that we couldn’t go for just a few days. We decided on Four Seasons Scottsdale. This is a place we have visited a few times and love. Even though we had been there before, I knew it would be a totally different experience without the kids. While Four Seasons Scottsdale is super family friendly (read about that in this post) there were times during our last 2 visits that we’d eye the adults only pool and think about how relaxing it would be to enjoy a few hours there (or days!).

So we decided on a spot for our Parent’s Getaway, a date for the trip and lined up Grammy to watch the kids… next step: find more parent’s that need a getaway! We were so excited that our friends were able to join us for this trip. They’re two of our best friends from our Chicago days and while we’ve made time to meet up with them over the years since we moved, we have 6 kids between us… so the visits (while super fun) are not very relaxing. We were so excited we’d get a chance to vacation with them, have adult only meals and relax. We had a great time and even had a chance to meet up with another one of our Chicago friends that now lives in Scottsdale!

After the trip, here’s why I would recommend Four Seasons Scottsdale for a Parent’s Getaway:

1. The Rooms

The rooms are perfect for a relaxing parent’s getaway. They’re spacious and the views are beautiful. We love the decor as it makes us feel like we’re really on a desert vacation. The rooms have all different views. We loved waking up to our mountain view and loved hanging out at our friends room because they had a big outdoor area with a fire pit. One night we even ordered a smores kit to use out at the fire pit. I recently found out that FS Scottsdale just finished a room renovation and I can’t wait to go back and see what they look like now (details)!

2. The Pools

The pools at Four Seasons Scottsdale are beautiful. It’s so peaceful and relaxing to swim while surrounded by mountain and desert views. One of the days we enjoyed time by the smaller, quieter adults only pool. Here we reserved a cabana which was nice for cooling off out of the desert sun. We spent another day at the main pool. We enjoyed drinks by the pool, lunch, etc. We all agreed that lounging in the middle of a pool on a pool float with a drink in hand is WAY more relaxing than what we’re used to on vacation with kids. The pools/ pool setup made for a fun and relaxing parent’s getaway scene.

3. The Spa

What “parent’s getaway” would be complete without a trip to the spa? I tried the Aroma Bar Massage because I have been really into essential oils lately. This was such a neat spa experience. You spend time before the massage answering questions about stresses in your life, what you need more of, etc. The answers help create a special oil blend JUST for you. The personalized oil blend is used for your massage and then the rest is made into a body cream to take home. I still use it all the time! Maybe it’s that the scent reminds me of my relaxing morning at the Four Seasons Spa but I swear it really helps me relax and focus.

4. Talavera

Talavera went through a complete renovation since the first time we visited years ago. We were so excited to try it and it was the best meal of the trip. It makes for a great “parent’s getaway” dinner because in addition to amazing food, Talavera boasts some of the best sunset views in the valley. It’s a Spanish steakhouse and the food is incredible. My husband enjoyed a steak dinner (his favorite) and I enjoyed a vegetarian Paella. Read more about the new Talavera here.

5. Proof

Proof was a favorite when we took our kids to Four Seasons Scottsdale (see this post for details) but we always said it would be fun to go “just us” to try some of their neat drinks and relax a bit more over our meal. We had a great dinner at Proof. The combo of one night at Talavera and one night at Proof makes a great combo of restaurants for a Parent’s Getaway. Proof has some cool things going on this fall. They have lots of fall and football specials and they’ll be offering a fun “Friday Night Pie Fight” promotion.

6. Golf nearby

If you’re looking for golf on your Parent’s Getaway, Four Seasons Scottsdale is perfect. It’s right next to Troon North Golf Club which is an awesome course. My husband has played this course a few times now and it’s one he really looks forward to returning to each time. He loves the course and the scenery is unbelievable! It’s also nice because there are two different courses you can play so if you are there for a few days you can head to Troon North Golf Club more than once and try the different courses.

7. Concierge

A super helpful concierge helps make a parent’s getaway a lot easier. I spent so much timing planning who was watching the kids, who would bring them to each activity, school, etc that I didn’t have a ton of time to plan past getting to AZ and where we’d stay! I had the concierge answer lots of questions, make suggestions and even help me get a camera battery via Amazon when I showed up on the trip without it. So if it wasn’t for the helpful concierge at FS Scottsdale this post might not have any photos!

8. Easy to get to

Four Seasons Scottsdale is really easy to get to. This is key for a parent’s getaway because when you find time to get away without the kids, time is of the essence! My mom is a teacher so she could only miss 1 day (plus the weekend) and a friend could help one day. This left us with 4 days so we wanted to make sure we could get somewhere easily and not waste a lot of time on travel. There are tons of direct flights in Phoenix and then about a 30 minute Uber ride later we were at the resort.

9. Resort Feel

One reason I chose Four Seasons Scottsdale for our parent’s getaway was that in the past I really liked the resort feel. It has a calming, relaxing vibe and you really feel like you have gotten “away from it all”. You can easily spend the entire trip at the resort and have plenty to see, do and eat. There are pools, a spa, amazing restaurants, bars, yoga classes, hikes and more. The resort, while it feels quiet and relaxing, is actually nearby plenty to do. So if you want to escape and try other spots to eat (and other things to do) there is a lot close by.

10. Parent’s Need Getaways

I highly recommend Four Seasons Scottsdale for a Parent’s Getaway. I also recommend trying your very best to make time for a getaway as parents, regardless of where you go. This time away was much needed While we get date nights and time “just us” here and there, planning an actual vacation and spending a few days unwinding, enjoying time with friends and just focusing on ourselves left us really refreshed and happy. We love traveling with our kids but a Parent’s Getaway was one trip we really needed!
