Ciao! Welcome back to our Simple Italian Lessons for Kids! If you’re new, check out Lezione 1 here and Lezione 2 here, and for some great Italian book for kids, visit this post. For today’s “lesson” we’re counting in Italian! I found it pretty easy to teach my kids to count in Italian because the numbers are similar enough to Spanish that they caught on. Whether it’s from school or hearing counting in Spanish from their favorite shows, many kids can count to 10 in Spanish. My girls learned to count in Spanish from Dora when they were little!

Lezione 3: Numeri, Learning to Count in Italian

There are a few parts to today’s counting lesson! The first 2 parts are fun for all ages, even little ones that can’t read yet. The second half of the lesson is for children that can already read. Enjoy counting in Italian!

Here are the numbers 1 to 10 in Italian. Make flash cards or just practice saying them out loud:

  1. uno
  2. due
  3. tre
  4. quattro
  5. cinque
  6. sei
  7. sette
  8. otto
  9. nove
  10. dieci

1. Italian Counting Play

For this sheet, the numbers are out of order and the children should fill the box with stickers or little toys that match that number. Another fun idea is to cut the squares out and tape them to a paper bag and have the child fill the bag with that many objects. If they can’t read, I suggest writing the numeral in the box when you cut it out and tape it to the bag, to help. You say the number in Italian and see if they can then fill the bag with the right number or objects. My one daughter chose to draw little pictures in the boxes to practice.
