Things to do with the kids in fall
Fall Family Traditions picture

Who’s ready for a Free Printable Family Fall Bucket List? Fall officially starts on Monday! As much as I am always sad to say goodbye to summer, there’s a lot to look forward to in the fall. The kids are back at school, sports are in full swing and there are tons of fall activities to do outdoors.

All 5 of my kids love Halloween, football, and all things fall so I made a fun little Free Printable Family Fall Bucket List to make sure that we get in all of our favorite fall activities.

Why Create a Fall Bucket List?

Every season has its own rhythm. Summer feels carefree with its long nights, beach days, and poolside fun, while fall means back to routines. And honestly? That shift can feel like a drag (I love the carefree summers filled with travel and adventure).

That’s why a fall bucket list for families is more than just a checklist—it’s a little reminder to slow down and make space for simple autumn activities outside of the routine.

With five kids, weekends can get hectic fast. Having a printable fall bucket list taped to the fridge keeps us accountable for the fun stuff—like heading to a pumpkin patch or baking a loaf of pumpkin bread…so those little traditions don’t get lost in the shuffle.

And the best part? The kids love checking things off one by one. It turns even the smallest traditions, like making s’mores or watching a spooky movie, into something special.

Here’s the list we came up with this year. Print it, hang it up, and see how many you can check off before winter rolls around.

 Classic Fall Activities

  • Go apple picking – Nothing says autumn like a crisp apple right from the tree. Bonus points if you bake a pie afterward or this apple cake!

  • Visit a pumpkin patch – The kids always try to find the biggest pumpkin. Pro tip: smaller ones are easier to carve.

  • Carve pumpkins – Messy? Yes. Fun? Absolutely.  As an alternative, you can also paint pumpkins!

 Cozy Fall Food & Fun

  • Make s’mores – Campfire or stovetop, gooey marshmallows never fail.

  • Bake pumpkin bread – The smell alone makes your home feel like fall.

  • Make chili – A hearty, cozy meal that tastes even better the next day.

 Seasonal Events for Families

  • Watch a local football game – Grab blankets, hot cocoa, and cheer from the stands.

  • Trick-or-treating – Costumes, candy, and excitement for all ages.

  • Watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade – A tradition that officially kicks off the holiday season.

  • Host a Friendsgiving – Celebrate gratitude with good food and friends.

 Outdoor Fall Adventures

  • Go on a fall hike – The changing leaves make even a short walk magical.

  • Watch a spooky movie – Pick something age-appropriate so no one hides under the couch cushions!

  • Decorate for Halloween – From cobwebs to carved pumpkins, kids love helping and this is a fun way to get them involved.

 Family Traditions & Giving Back

  • Read a fall book together – Cozy blankets + seasonal stories.

  • Donate to a local food pantry – A meaningful way to give back before the holiday rush.

How to Use Your Fall Bucket List

The key isn’t to treat your fall bucket list like homework. You might not check off every single item, and that’s okay. Instead, pick one or two autumn activities each week and weave them into your family’s schedule.

Some fall bucket list ideas, like making s’mores or having a spooky movie night, only take an hour or two.

Others, like apple picking, visiting a pumpkin patch, or going on a hike, can become a full day’s family adventure.

How to Get the Whole Family Involved

Let the kids take the lead on what they’re most excited about. You’ll be surprised at how much ownership they feel when they get to decide, “Tonight we check off the pumpkin carving!” or “This weekend is chili night!”  It keeps the whole family engaged.

I’ve put our family’s Fall Bucket List into a fun printable you can hang on your fridge, tape to the wall, or tuck into a planner. Let your kids check items off with stickers, markers, or even doodles.

However you use it, I hope it brings autumn fun to your family while inspiring new fall traditions!
