Friday Favorites: Favorite Things To Bring To A BBQ

May 24, 2013

Today kicks off Memorial Day weekend & the official start of summer. This also means the start of many weekend BBQs. When invited to a BBQ, I always like to bring something along. Whenever the host says “bring anything!”,  I draw a blank & can’t think of what to bring. This year, I made a list of 5 easy “go to” items. So when I’m heading to a BBQ, or hosting my own, I’m prepared!

1. Fruit Kabobs

Ingredients:

Wooden skewers

Fruit of your choice cut up (as if making fruit salad)

Directions: Slide the fruit on the skewers & your ready to go. This makes it really easy for the BBQ host to serve, because you don’t need a serving spoon or utensils to eat them.

2. Dirt Pudding in a Bucket

Ingredients

4 – 6 packages of instant chocolate pudding, made according to package

Package of Oreo cookies

Gummy worms

New beach bucket

New shovel

Directions: Wash the new bucket & shovel. Make pudding according to package. Put the pudding into the bucket. Crumble up the Oreos & sprinkle on top of the pudding. Put gummy worms into the “dirt”. Serve with the shovel. This is a fun thing to bring to a BBQ where there will be lots of kids!

3. Pasta Salad

My favorite pasta salad is my Aunt P’s recipe. I wrote out the whole recipe in a post last summer. It’s easy because if you have pasta & balsamic vinaigrette on hand, you can then just add in any other salad favorites & it’s done! It’s quick, easy & delicious.

4. S’More Dip

We just featured the S’More dip this week. This is one of the fastest things to “whip up” before heading out to a BBQ. When I bring this to a party, I usually just bring the Fluff & Nutella & mix it right before it’s served (I think it tastes best that way).

5. Summer Spinach Salad

Ingredients:

Bag of fresh spinach

Strawberries

Goat cheese

Sliced mushrooms

Poppyseed dressing

Directions: Slice strawberries. Slice & crumble goat cheese. Mix spinach, strawberries, goat cheese & mushrooms. Toss with the dressing when served or leave it on the side.

Please share some of your favorite things to bring to a BBQ!

I made dirt for a DAR meeting that I hosted. I'm younger than most of my fellow chapter members' children, and they have never tried it. Nor did they really understand why it was called dirt.

Found you through The Wondering Brain blog hop :->

I've never thought of S'mores Dip. I think this would be a hit at a Bar-B-Que!
This post is a nice match (on the flip side) for what I have asked readers of my blog – What food have you brought to a potluck/bar-b-que that no one ate?

Happy to have found you. Your blog design is adorable!
