How To Make A Simple Dollhouse From A Cardboard Box & Fun with Little Charmers

October 23, 2015

This is the most fun we’ve had with a craft in a long time! Last week, while Tommy napped, Maggie and Alex helped me build a simple dollhouse out of a cardboard box. It was easy, fun to work on and has provided hours of fun since. The girls love the new show Little Charmers. If you haven’t seen it, it’s got catchy music, colorful characters and cute messages about friendship. Maggie and Alex love that each of the Little Charmers has a pet that accompanies them on adventures. The girls pretend to be in “Charmville” all the time. The recently got a set of the 3 Little Charmers Friends with their pets. They play with them a lot and  asked if we could make them a house. We had an overflowing pile of boxes to recycle, so we got to work crafting a new house for the Little Charmers.

I had one of the Amazon boxes that’s only about 4″ deep. I figured that size would be easier for them to play with the little dolls and it worked out really well.

How To Make A Simple Dollhouse From A Cardboard Box:

Supplies: cardboard box, gift box lid (optional), hot glue or craft glue, decorations

Directions: Cut all of the flaps off the cardboard box. Use the 2 shorter pieces to make the triangle roof. Use hot glue to hold them in place. I use hot glue because it dries fast and holds firm. I don’t let the kids anywhere near the hot glue. If you want the project to be more hands on for the kids, please use a craft glue instead. Use the 2 longer pieces of cut cardboard to make 1 or 2 “floors”. Fold the edges up a bit and glue in place. If you have a gift box lid or another piece of cardboard handy, you can use it to hold the house in place and make a little “front yard”.

Now it’s the fun part: decorating! Maggie and Alex wanted it to be colorful and “fancy” for the Little Charmers. We had glitter paper that we used as the floors. Then the girls colored in cute little cardboard shapes: hearts, flowers, etc that we glued in the house. We had some rhinestone strips that we stuck on to make the house extra fancy.

The house was done and dry in about 30 min. Now it was time to play! They set up the Little Charmers in the house and played with it all afternoon. It’s been a week and the dollhouse is still in tact and being played with all the time. It’s the perfect size for their favorite new figurines: the Little Charmers and it was really a lot of fun to create!
