The Chirping Moms

Join the Challenge and Card It Forward! (& Giveaway)

January 24, 2014

Everything in our world is digital now.  Magazines, books, and even e-cards.  But I have to tell you that as a stay at home mom one of the highlights of my day is that short little trip to the mailbox and back in the hopes for something exciting to appear.  Most often it is bills or junk mail, but there’s something about receiving a hand-written card from someone that you love that can make your day complete!
There is a lot of joy that a hand-written card can bring so I have challenged myself to join the Hallmark, “Get Carded, Card It Forward” challenge this year to take some time each month to send some fun and thoughtful cards to friends and family.  The “Get Carded, Card It Forward” challenge means that I need to send seven cards to seven people in seven days.  Also, as part of the challenge, you leave a blank card with your own card so they can pass the card on to someone else.  What a great way to keep the joy going!
I thought that this “Get Carded: Card It Forward” challenge would be a great one to get my oldest son, Aiden, involved in.  One of my challenges this year is to find ways that I can challenge kindness and thoughtfulness in my own children in our daily life, discussed in our Kids & Kindness challenge.  This act of kidness is easy to do but requires my little, precious preschooler to sit down and spend some time thinking about someone else and creating a little something special for someone he loves.  Sitting down at the table together while my younger two children napped, we spent some time writing and creating hand-written special notes for some of the special loved ones in our life.
Together we decided on some special people to write our cards to and got to work.  On most of the cards that are begin sent out, Aiden wrote his own little message next to mine.  In his last year of preschool, we are working hard on learning how to write letters and words.  I thought it would be great practice to put his writing skills to use by sharing some special words with his own family and friends.
Aiden decided he wanted to create his own cards for his friends so for our fellow “Chirping” family, he created cards for his two best buddies, Alex and Maggie using markers and stickers while I wrote out my own special card for Courtney!  He worked hard trying to sound out the words and get all the letters written correctly.  This was actually a great activity for practicing letters and words in a real-life situation!

Besides our fellow “Chirping” family, we sent our cards to some very special people in our life:  grandmas, faraway college roommates, and the kids’ lovely great-grandparents. So I invite you all (and your kids) to join the Get Carded: Card It Forward challenge this year.  Take some time out of your busy day to write some handwritten cards for special people in your own life.  For a chance to win your own pack of cards from Hallmark to help get you started on this fun challenge, please enter in the Rafflecopter at the bottom of the post!

The highlight of going to the mailbox this week was anticipating if there would be a package in there from shutterfly.

Oh I had a great mail week. Yarn, a new crochet hook, my mail scale & a super cute zipper pouch I bought myself (something I don't do often) 🙂
