Preschool Boy Holiday Gift Guide!

November 21, 2013

For more holiday inspiration,  please follow our Pinterest boards for our latest pins, including all our favorite holiday ideas!

Bringing you another holiday gift guide today and this one is all about the little “men” in our life!  I’m focusing on preschool-aged boys (ages 2 1/2-6) for this fun part of our gift guide series.  (On Tuesday, we shared our Baby’s First Christmas gift guide, please click here to read the complete post.)  My boys are SO excited for the holiday season.  And what makes life even more crazy between now and Christmas is that BOTH boys have their birthdays.  Andrew will be turning three on Thanksgiving Day while Aiden will be celebrating his fifth birthday six days before the Christmas holiday.  So not only do I have to do all of the holiday shopping, but we also have some special birthdays to celebrate as well.

Before we head into the kids’ favorites (the toys), let’s hit the fashion stores for our favorite finds for preschool boys.
Top row (from left to right):
  • One of our new favorite shops to find unique tees for my boys is Lion and Lamb Tees.  (And let me tell you that as a boy mom it is really hard to find some fun places to shop for boys!)  My boys are all about “things that go” so this fun airplane tee is the perfect addition to Aiden’s wardrobe.   I think the Vintage Train shirt would make little Andrew so excited to open under the tree.
  • I’m a sucker for cute Christmas shirts while I can still get my boys to wear them!  I saw these cute reindeer shirts by J. Khaki at Belk’s while I was down visiting my mom a few weekends ago and thought it would be a fun shirt for the holiday season.
  • My son, Aiden, used to ONLY wear jeans, but all of a sudden now, all he wants is sweatpants. So I’m on the hunt for at least some fun sweatants and this striped pair from the Gap would be the perfect pair to add to his pants drawer!
Bottom row (from left to right)
  • Love these cute little patterned socks from the Gap!  These would be perfect as a stocking stuffer.
  • Tis the holiday season, you have to own at least one pair of Christmas pajamas!  Carter’s always has a great selection at good prices.
  • Another new favorite shop of ours in this boy house is Room to Romp.  Andrew (my vehicle obsessed boy) is in love with his fun and unique tram shirt.  He wore it yesterday to school and as soon as he woke up he asked to wear it today.  I have a feeling that this will be one of his new favorite shirts.  Aiden asks me everyday if it is cold enough to snow yet, so when he saw this fun snowman shirt he couldn’t wait to put it on!  Room to Romp makes some really fun and affordable shirts and clothing items for boys and is a must-see shop for moms with boys!
And now let’s see what each kid has on their wish list this year…
First, we will visit Andrew’s Wish List who will be turning three next week!
Preschool Boy Holiday Gift Guide : The Chirping Moms
  • Feed the Woozle Board Game:  We are always on the hunt for fun games to play with our kids.  If you have any other ideas, please let me know!
  • Step2 Kickback Soccer Goal And Pitch Back Set:  We love spending time outside and this looks like a perfect addition to our outdoor toy collection.
  • Battat Take Apart Airplane:  I recently saw this on another blog as highly recommended and think this would be a fun addition our “transportation” toy collection.
  • Green Horse Hopper:  Anything to help burn off the energy of my petite three year old!
  • Melissa & Doug Police Officer Costume Set and Melissa & Doug Doctor Costume Set: Andrew is all about dressing up into different costumes.  He wears his fireman costume (from Halloween) almost everyday so I thought it would be fun to get him a few other items to add to his costume collection.
  • VTech Switch & Go Dinos:  He played with the Switch and Go Dinos at a friend’s house and ever since has been asking for one of these for his birthday.  I also think he would love the Playskool Heroes Transformers Rescue Bots.  It’s like a Transformer built for preschoolers.
  • Planes:  We never made it to the movies for this movie but I have a feeling that Andrew would love to own this fun movie.
  • Educational Insights Design & Drill:  This looks like a great activity to keep both of my boys occupied while I am cooking dinner at the kitchen table!
  • Imaginext Rescue City Center:  My boys love to play towns with our Little People farm, house, and anything else they can find.  This looks like it would provide endless hours of entertainment!
  • Hess Truck Helicopter and Rescue Vehicle:  Another recommendation from a friend that her son loved with great reviews on Amazon!
  • Everything But the Dalmation Firehouse from Land of Nod, one of our favorite places to shop for toys!
  • B Teepee from B Toys:  What a fun hideaway from the chaos of our house!
And now let’s move to Aiden’s wish list who will be turning five next month!
Preschool Boy Holiday Gift Guide : The Chirping Moms
  • Mini Ogodisk Super Disk Set:  This has great reviews and looks like another fun toy to add to our outdoor collection.  (We spend a lot of our free time outside so I’m always looking for fun things to do for them AND me!)
  • Pengoloo:  Aiden LOVES penguins and board games, so I thought this would be a fun addition to our game closet.  We are always looking for fun board games and puzzles.  I am eyeing this puzzle right now for Aiden, Ravensburger Fire Department – 100 Piece Puzzle.
  • Beanie Babies Diego’s Baby Jaguar:  We are in a huge Go Diego! Go stage right now in this house so I think that if each boy got one of these from Santa, they would be ecstatic!
  • Safari Toob:  One of Aiden’s favorite things to do is play animals.  I think that he would love to receive any of the fun Toob sets that are full of fun animals!
  • Little Tikes Disc Swing:  Since we are renting for the two years that we live in Washington DC, we are sadly without a swing set!  We have the perfect tree, though, to hang this fun disc swing and how much fun would this be to play on!
  • Magna-Tiles:  We played with these at a friend’s house and the boys had so much fun with them.  And then everywhere I read, people just rave about them.  They are definitely costly, but everyone I know says that the investment is worth it.  Any opinions from our readers?!?!
  • Play-Doh Breakfast Time Set:  One of Aiden’s favorite things to do while I cook dinner is play with his play dough.  We don’t have any Play-doh sets, but I would love to get one for the boys.  The breakfast time set looks like it could be a lot of fun!
  • How to Train Your Dragon:  Another movie that we haven’t seen but I have a feeling that my boys would enjoy.
  • I See Me Personalized Puzzle:  We love puzzles in our house and I was excited to find these personalized puzzles from I See Me.  I thought the personalized space puzzle would be perfect for Aiden who is all about space right now.  I See Me is one of favorite places to find a unique gift for others, including their personalized storybooks and personalized placemats.
  • LeapFrog Disney Pixar Monsters University Learning Game:  Aiden loves playing on his LeapPad Ultra, but we are only limited to the apps that are on plus a fun Sesame Street game.  I would love for Santa to bring him a couple more engaging games.  He added the Monsters University game as well as Pixar Pals to his wish list!
  • Marble Run

And last, but not least, I wanted to share some of our own favorite toys in this house to add to your own boys’ holiday gift guide.  These are toys that are tried, tested, and recommended by the two boys in my house.

Preschool Boy Holiday Gift Guide : The Chirping Moms
  • Bruder Trucks:  High quality truck that withstands hours of daily play.  (If you live near a Homegoods, I definitely recommend looking there for some great prices!)
  • Some fun “boy” reads:  Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site, I Stink!, The Little House, Pete the Cat books, Planets, and our Elephant and Piggie books.
  • LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra Kids’ Learning Tablet:  Perfect for a little quiet, independent play!  We shared more about this fun tablet here.  Another one of our favorite Leapfrog items is the LeapFrog LeapReader with our favorite book, Let’s Explore, Things That Go!
  • We love our stuffed animals in our house.  The boys are constantly playing with their animals in different role play situations.  Our FAVORITE animals are the super soft ones from Ikea, such as  one of our favorites “Kitty Cat”!
  • Train Table and Train Set:  My boys LOVE their train set and use it almost daily.  We have a wooden train table with a wooden train set.  Ours is no specific brand as we actually got our train table from a friend.  Most of our trains are Thomas and Friends, but it is really compatible with several types of trains so we kind of mix and match with what we find!  We also own the  Chuggington Interactive Railway Starter Set and this is another big hit in our house.  The boys have always loved the cute show Chuggington and we love how these trains “talk” to each other!
  • Play Kitchen with fun kitchen items.  Some of our favorite kitchen items are the Melissa & Doug Cutting Food and Melissa & Doug Grocery Basket!
  • Melissa & Doug Deluxe Standing Easel:  My older son is in a big art phase so he is always wanting to paint, color, and craft lately.  The easel is a great art tool for kids.  Some must have art items in our house are:  Crayola Pip-Squeak Markers,  Fingerpaint, Washable Kids Paint, Spill Proof Paint Cups,  Construction Paper, and a good pair of Preschool Scissors!
  • Fisher-Price Imaginext Eagle Talon Castle:  The boys love playing castle men with this big castle.  They also have turned their castle into an airport, shopping mall, and more!
  • Mini Kick Scooter:  Seriously, one of my favorite toys for the boys.  They use it DAILY and you can find more information in our blog post here!  Our other two favorite outdoor toys are our Strider Balance Bike  and our Peg Perego John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer!
  • Play-Doh is played with A LOT in this house so we could always use some more.  Another great place to find some yummy smelling play dough is Love Bubs.  We have lot of fun tools and we love our Play-Doh Doctor Drill ‘N Fill!
  • LEGO Duplos:  This is one of their favorite toys to build with.  The possibilities are endless with these basic building blocks.
  • ThinkFun Zingo:  One of our favorite, but yet so simple board games.  We talked about some of our favorite board games in this post!
  • Hot Wheels: For any mom of boys, you have to own a few Hot Wheels!  We are finally adding a couple Hot Wheels tracks to our collection this year, thanks to Grandma.
Hope you enjoyed our “Preschool Boy Gift Guide” that we shared with you today.

Got the Magna Tiles for my 3 year olds birthday a few weeks ago. Both my three and soon to be five year old love them. Totally worth the investment!!

Oh, boy! It's like you peeked in my playroom before writing this post 🙂 As far as your wishlists go, you have GREAT items on there! We have the pretend drill toy–it is so cool! We also love the Switch-n-Go Dinos as well as the Playschool Transformers. The "older kid" Transformers are SO hard to do–these are perfect (they were my Black Friday find last year!). Zingo is on our list this year. You DEFINITELY need to add a Stomp Rocket to your list: http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Stomp-Rocket-Kit-Refills/dp/B004OY9EGO/ref=pd_sim_t_9
