“Reward” Sashes and an Adorable Giveaway!

September 6, 2012

We have a winner of the Five Little Monkeys in a Banana Boat set:  Kristin Benit Ahrens!  Congratulations to our lucky reader!

One of the struggles with toddlerhood is how to motivate our little ones to do things with a little independence as they are starting to get older.  This could be potty training, chores around the house, helping with siblings, or just getting dressed.  I don’t know how many times a day I have to remind my children to “clean up three things”, “put that wrapper in the trash”, “put your shoes on”, etc., etc., etc.  Do you all know what I mean?!?!

Well, we are SO excited to be featuring these adorable sashes created by Imogene’s Tea Garden that you could use for a way to motivate your little ones.  They are created by Kathleen, a mother of five, and are perfect for our little ones!
Aiden LOVED his new sash as soon as he saw it!  He is really into accessories right now–sunglasses, his “boy” bag, and hats.  So when he saw the sash, he couldn’t wait to put it on.  But even more exciting to him were the little badges that he could earn for doing special things around the house.  Since he helped me clean the basement (that was COVERED in toys) before his grandparents arrived, he earned a special clean-up badge today.  He was SO excited about earning his first badge and anxiously is awaiting to receive another one.  I think I may have to get creative on some badge ideas—maybe I can create a few more badges that reward helping with the puppies, making his bed, and putting his pajamas in the hamper in the morning.  I also love that I could reuse it for more children, especially when I start potty training my second!
Courtney wants to share a little about her love for Maggie’s new sash:  We had a lot of success using a rewards system with sleeping & staying in her bed when she first moved out of the crib. This is a much better version of the sticker chart – they can wear it! So far, Maggie has a cupcake patch. We have been talking about her sister turning 1 & making her gifts & talking a lot about birthdays. Today, when she finished her card to put on Alex’s gift, I gave her the patch. She has been working very hard on Alex’s gifts! Our next patch will be the for potty training. Here is a picture of Maggie holding the coveted patch! She knows that we will add one on when she starts using the potty & then another one when she starts using the potty at school.
You know what else you could do with this sash—how great would it be to collect pins and patches from all the trips that you take?  What a great way to collect memories from all the places you go without breaking your bank to buy crazy expensive souvenirs!  I think this is a great idea to help remember all the special vacations that you go on for a child!
We want to share a little more detail about Kathleen, the amazing woman behind Imogene’s Tea Garden.  Kathleen and her husband have been married for twenty five years and have FIVE children ranging in age from 22 to 5 years old. She has been sewing and crafting for as long as she can remember, having been given her first sewing machine at the age of nine.  She started sewing since she was a very young girl, my grandmother Imogene, for whom my business is named, also taught me other needle crafts like crochet and needlepoint.  She started Imogene’s Tea Garden in 2011 at the insistence of many friends and family members who have enjoyed her creations over the years and urged her to offer them to the public at large.  Every time she sits down to “work” in her studio, she cannot help but think of all the children who will smile or build their imaginations as they play with the things that she have created.  You can also find her over here blogging about her business and home life!

Her shop, Imogene’s Tea Garden, also includes some awesome finger puppets that would be perfect for any young child to have in their toy/learning collection!  And we are SO excited that she will be giving one lucky reader a Five Little Monkeys in a Banana Boat set.  Plus, all readers can use the coupon code, CHRPBTS, to receive 15% off anything in her store.  AWESOME deal!  So enter below for a chance to win these adorable finger puppets and go head over to her shop to see what else she has to offer:
