Summer Fun With Popsicles

June 3, 2014

This kids got out of school last week and summer is in full swing! For us, summer and popsicles go hand in hand. Besides enjoying a cold popsicle on a hot day, we’ve found ways to make popsicle crafts, other snacks shaped like popsicles and we’ve even found popsicle clothes and accessories. We’re excited to give away some of our popsicle favorites to one lucky winner! Be sure to check out the end of the post for details on how to win.

Here are some of the ways we’re having summer fun with popsicles:

Craft // Hat // Ice Pop Tray // Dress // Juice // Toy // Healthy Treat // Tattoos // Headband
(Details below on each item)
This is an easy to make popsicle craft for kids:
Watercolor Popsicles
Supplies: Cardstock, water color paint, popsicle stick and glue or tape
Directions: Cut out a popsicle shape from the cardstock. Older children can cut this out themselves to practice cutting. Have the children paint the cardstock with watercolors. Once the paint dries, use glue or tape to attach it to the popsicle stick.
While searching for some fun ways to practice our letters and colors this summer, I found this neat popsicle set. It is the Learning Resources Smart Snacks Alpha Pops. The kids can pop the pieces together  to match uppercase and lowercase letters. Littler ones can practice matching by color. The toy is also great for fine motor skills and imaginative play. This has been a huge hit with both Maggie and Alex. It costs less than $15 and would be a great summer toy or birthday gift.
We like a variety of popsicles in our house. Maggie’s favorites are push pops and Alex loves bomb pops. Since we tend to eat a lot of popsicles in the summer, we like to make some healthy too. We use Red Jacket juice in our HABA tray. The tray is really easy to use (the kids can actually fill it without spilling) and the ice pops always come out in one piece. We go with Red Jacket juice because they are cold pressed and contain only juice. There are many flavors, so you can make all kinds of ice pops with them! My kids prefer the Grape and Apple, but the Raspberry Apple is my favorite.
Another healthy option is to make a popsicle “shape” out of a watermelon slice. Once your watermelon is cut into slices, make a small slice in the rind and put a popsicle stick in. My kids love this as an afternoon snack.
Popsicle Clothes and Accessories:
We sure love popsicles!
Bomb pop headband and bow from Emmys Pretties
Popsicle sun hat from i play
Awesome ice pop tattoos from Style Smaller
Adorable popsicle dress from Seesaw Society (shown above).
Get 20% off the popsicle dress and ALL of Seesaw Society right now with code: CHIRP
Now for the giveaway:
One lucky winner will receive ALL SIX of these popsicle prizes (all have been shown above in post):
1. Popsicle sun hat from i play
2. Popsicle tattoos from Style Smaller
3. Choice of popsicle headband OR bow from Emmys Pretties
4. Popsicle Learning Toy
5. Popsicle tray from HABA
