The Chirping Moms

Valentine’s Day Kindness

January 14, 2014

It’s Valentine’s Week at The Chirping Moms! To keep up with all the Valentine posts this week, browse around or visit our “Seasonal” tab up top. Be sure to enter the giant Valentine’s Giveaway here.

Last week we introduced you to a new series on our blog, called Kids & Kindness. I think Valentine’s Day is an important time to talk to kids about love & kindness. For kids, it can be a time of candy, parties & heart shaped chocolates, but it should also be about love. I think it’s great that kids can bring in Valentine’s for their class. We all want to get super crafty & send something extra creative we saw on Pinterest, but it’s also important to make the little ones part of the Valentine making. It’s nice to explain that they are giving each classmate something special to show they are an important friend.

In addition to sending classmates Valentines, if you have extra time, have the kids make cards for people that might not receive many or people in town that would appreciate a “thank you” &  kind Valentine’s Day card.

My grandmother passed away in the spring. Both Maggie & Alex ask about her all the time. We used to make her many cards, crafts & gifts. At Christmas, Maggie got very upset, missing her great grandmother. As we started making Valentine’s, we talked about how much fun it was to bring her cards at her assisted living home last year. We decided that we would still deliver Valentine’s to the home, to send love to all the people that live there. Maggie worked on the cards all day!

If you have a nursing home or assisted living home in your area, this is a great place to drop off some homemade cards.

A few other places kids can deliver Valentines:

For your town librarians

The fire department

The police station

A local coffee shop or bakery you visit often

The love & kindness at Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to stop with the kids! In a time of texts, Facebook posts & emails, take some time at Valentine’s Day to send a REAL PAPER CARD to a friend or family member you don’t see all the time.

Buy a card, make a card from a downloaded printable (above) or even send a little surprise.

Spread the love this Valentine’s Day!
