Mother’s Day Idea: Have a Virtual Tea Party

May 4, 2020

One group of people that I think quarantine is very hard for is Grandmothers. If they live close by, it’s not easy for them to skip what were frequent visits or to start having visits from 6+ feet away in the driveway to way hello. For grandmothers that live farther away, it’s really hard to cancel flight plans to visit grandkids. We were determined to figure out  a special virtual mother’s day for grandmas.

My mom has been the biggest help when each of our babies were born. I don’t think I ever realized just how much of a help until we had a baby and she was not aloud to visit. We miss seeing Grammy and she misses the kids. We can’t wait until we can hug her! In the mean time, we do lots of FaceTime with her and a large family Zoom calls, but Mother’s Day coming, I wanted to do something different.

So we invited Grammy to a virtual tea party! Once I thought of the idea, we decided to do it a week early so I could share the idea. We’re hoping it makes some more Grandma’s and grandchildren just as excited come Mother’s Day.

Virtual Mother’s Day Tea Party

Here’s how to have a virtual tea party:

  1. Invite Grandma (or an aunt, friend, anyone you’d like to celebrate Mother’s Day with from afar)
  2. Get dressed up in your finest tea party apparel
  3. Make your tea and snacks and tell your virtual guests to do the same. This way you can sip your tea together and enjoy a meal together or some sweet treats!
  4. Set up via Zoom or FaceTime
  5. Enjoy your tea party!

A few other ideas for your virtual tea party:

  • Show homemade gifts you make ahead of time
  • Play a song Grandma might like
  • Write a Mother’s Day poem and read it during the tea party
  • Do a craft/ paint a picture during the tea party (ask Grandma ahead of time what supplies she might have)

My girls were so excited about this. It was a lot different than our normal FaceTime calls with Grammy so it felt really special. Grammy was all dressed up and showed off her favorite Shakespeare tea pot. She loved seeing the girls all dressed up and that they were drinking real tea (they used to have tea parties with just water).

Bella Bliss Coupon Code

The girls tea party outfits are from our favorite, Bella Bliss. This year they came out with a new print called “Teatime” that’s just perfect for a tea party. The print comes in women’s pajamas too, so it would make a great gift to send to Grandma before the Mother’s Day tea party! Or… buy them for yourself as a Mother’s Day gift because they are the softest pima pajamas ever. Right now all women’s clothes (including these pjs) are 30% off with code MOM.

Happy Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day may look a little different this year, but there are plenty of ways to still celebrate those you love. We hope all the moms, grandmothers, aunts and special ladies in your life have a very happy Mother’s Day!
