5 Easy Dessert Ideas for 4th of July

June 11, 2022

If you’ve followed this blog for a while you know I love all things red, white & blue in the summer. We’re almost done with this year’s #30daysredwhiteblue and it’s time to talk 4th of July desserts. I like to make desserts that are festive, easy for sharing and easy to transport to a bbq, the pool etc. Also, if you are on vacation for the 4th of July, a dessert idea with easy to find ingredients is key. Here are 5 easy dessert ideas for 4th of July:

Easy Dessert Ideas for 4th of July

4th of july dessert board

A Red White and Blue Dessert Board

Ingredients:

All things red, white and blue! A few favorites:

  • Star shaped cookies
  • White chocolate or yogurt pretzels
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Watermelon
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Red, white & blue macaroons
  • Red & blue gummy bears
  • Red & blue m&ms
  • Fruit skewers: for the boards I use mini skewers so they are quick to make and fit on the board. For this I did a watermelon star on top and blueberries down the skewer.

Directions:
Arrange the snack board & enjoy! If you are bringing this to a party I suggest assembling it when you arrive. It’s much easier to transport everything on it’s own and make the board quickly before it’s time to have dessert!

Flag Mini Cupcakes

Ingredients:

Cupcake mix, frosting, blue food coloring or blue frosting tune, strawberries, mini star cookies (optional!)

Directions:
1. Make cupcakes according to the mix directions. You can do this with regular size cupcakes or mini cupcakes. I made these with minis.
2. Frost 6 of the cupcakes with blue. You can dye some of the frosting blue with blue food coloring or buy a tube of blue frosting. I used a tube of blue frosting I grabbed at Target. I topped each of the blue cupcakes with a mini star cookie.
3. Frost the rest with white frosting and assemble as a flag. Add sliced strawberries to every other row to make stripes.

Red, White & Blue Mini Cheesecakes

Ingredients:

Mini graham cracker crusts
2 bricks of cream cheese
1/3 cup of sour cream
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs
Sliced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries
Optional: mini white star cookies (I got from a local bakery)

Directions:
Mix the cream cheese bricks and sour cream together. Mix until it’s very creamy. Next add the sugar and vanilla extract. Once it’s mixed together well, add in the eggs and mix for another minute. Add a scoop of the mixture to each of the graham cracker crusts. The mixture should go almost to the top (it will sink a little). Bake for 20 minutes at 325 degrees.
Cool for an hour and then chill in the refrigerator for a few hours. You can leave in the fridge for longer if you want to make a day ahead too! Right before serving, top with the red and blue fruits. Last top with a mini star cookie if you have them. These are so delicious!

Star Spangled Snack Mix

Ingredients:

1 cup white chocolate chips
3 tablespoons butter
8 cups crispy rice square cereal
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup of M&M’S (we picked out just the red & blue ones)
1 cup mini marshmallows
Patriotic sprinkles

Directions:
1. Measure out cereal and put in a large bowl.
2. Melt butter and white chocolate chips & pour over the cereal and mix.
3. Once it’s cool, place the mixture into a large zip-top bag, add the powdered sugar and toss until all the cereal is coated in powdered sugar.
4. Add in the M&M’S, sprinkles and marshmallows

Patriotic Fruit Cones

Ingredients:

ice cream cones
white chocolate (to melt)
patriotic sprinkles
mini marshmallows
blueberries
strawberries

Directions:

Melt the white chocolate using a double boiler (or the microwave). Dip the top of the ice cream cones in the melted chocolate and cover with the patriotic sprinkles. Let cool. Fill the cones with the mini marshmallows, blueberries and diced strawberries.
