5 Fun Books for Kids this Summer

May 7, 2021

Can you believe it’s almost time to talk summer reading? I was going to wait and do one big post but instead am going to share small lists of books over the next few months (and will also make a big round up list with all of them!).

I have all different ages/ reading levels in my house and also all different interests. Doing these mini lists will help me share more specifics and hopefully help you find the best books to spark your child’s interest in reading this summer.

As of this month, we have another reader in the house! It’s so exciting seeing kids learn to read (thank you teachers!!)
Today I’m sharing 5 books my boys are  currently loving. They are in pre-k and kindergarten.

It hasn’t been as easy to get my wild & crazy boys to sit for books like it was with my girls. But these 5 have been a hit. The list includes the first chapter book we read aloud together and they actually sat through and loved it. Here’s a bit more about each book.

5 Fun Summer Reading Books

1. The Middle Kid

This book is fantastic! My “middle kid” especially loves it because it’s the first book about a middle child we have read. The middle kid is super cool and I think my middle kid can relate to a lot of the funny stuff that happens. All of my kids (from preschool to 4th grade enjoyed this book).

2. The Bruce Swap

Have you read any of the Bruce books? They are all cute but this one is by far our favorite yet. It’s hilarious and my kids laughed out loud.

3. House Mouse

This is a new book from one of our favorite authors. It’s a neat progression of watching a house become a home. My boys really enjoy reading it over and over.

4. Croc and Ally Books

These are a great easy reader series. I was looking for some books for my new reader to enjoy and he likes “funny books” and these make us laugh.

5.The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me

This is one of my favorite books and since my boys like funny books, I chose it as our first “read aloud” chapter book. It was a success: they listened to me read the whole thing over a few days. Each night they couldn’t wait to read more and laughed out loud a lot.
