The Chirping Moms

An Easy DIY Quiet Time Activity

November 20, 2015

Sometimes it’s nice to snuggle up on the couch with your favorite show. For my girls, they have some favorite shows but no desire to “snuggle up” and watch them quietly. Watching their favorite shows includes singing and dancing to the opening song, followed by playing “acting out” the show while they watch it. If they are sitting still during a show, it’s only to set up their figurines that go along with the show. Yes, I am happy my kids like to be creative and active while watching tv, but sometimes everyone needs little downtime and rest.

One of Maggie and Alex’s favorite new shows is Little Charmers. They love the characters and all of their adorable pets. It’s really a cute show with fun stories. As a mom, I really like that Little Charmers focuses on the meaning of true friendship through the magical misadventures of three best friends – Hazel, Posie and Lavender. I recently came up with an easy DIY quiet time activity to go along with Little Charmers. The girls love the bright colors and flowers in the show. We decided to make flowery, fun magnet boards inspired by Little Charmers. Now when it’s quiet time, the girls grab their favorite Little Charmers stuffed animals and a magnet tray to enjoy while they watch.

Alex is my very crafty girl, so I let her make a lot of her own magnets. We used cardboard cutouts and square magnet stickers. She colored them with markers and added some jewels so her magnets could be fancy like the Little Charmers. Maggie is in kindergarten and loves that she’s learning to spell words on her own. I added some pretty letter magnets for her. So now while watching the show she tries to sound out and spell the characters names!

How to Make Your Own Quiet Time Magnet Tray

It’s easy!

Supplies: metal cookie sheet, magnets you already have or make your own using square sticker magnets (we found ours on Amazon).

Right now the girls are trying to draw their own Little Charmers characters to turn into magnets. I’m so glad the show inspires them to be creative and I’m thrilled they like their new quiet time activity to go along with the show.

To watch the show, check your local listings for time and date or watch full episodes anytime online at nickjr.com/little-charmers.
