DIY Cupid Costume

February 11, 2021

Who said costume parties are only for Halloween? On the day of hearts, it’s fun to dress up and look adorable for everyone to see. If you’re searching for an easy, small cost, Valentine’s day costume that won’t take up too much of your time, then keep reading!

Making DIY costumes has now become a year-round thing here! I love making costumes and figures. Why stop at Halloween? Valentine’s Day is one of my most treasured holidays!

Maybe because I love being surrounded by hearts, or the abundance of chocolates around me, or maybe because it means Spring is coming, but either way, I am enjoying it a lot!

Going to a store and seeing plenty of reds, whites, and pinks, with various choices can get overwhelming really quick. So why not craft your own at home and save yourself the struggle and headache of choosing what to pick for your kids?

If you still have no idea what your little one can wear as a costume, I hope this homemade cupid costume will become a resource for you and aid you in saving some valuable time. I’m a total sucker for dressing up and coming up with easy ideas to share with everyone.

For Valentine’s Day this year, I wanted to make a DIY Cupid costume for Teddy. It was easy, fun, and adorable. Here’s how I put it together:

DIY Cupid Costume

I honestly can’t get enough of the holidays! I know we’ve already kept our children’s Halloween costumes in the bunk, but for heart’s day, if you have some extra fabric and accessories that you can use for this one, please take them out and reuse them.

If you’ve got the extra fabric at home, that’s a huge plus too! You’ll be shocked at how easy this cupid costume for kids is, you’ll end up asking yourself why you haven’t thought of it in the first place!

To start, I found a red bowtie and diaper cover on Amazon. Then I had to make some wings. I wanted something easy and to use things I had at home. I found these amazing coffee filter DIY wings from Alice Wingerden’s blog.

Hers are more beautiful and have some more steps but be sure to check out her site for the full tutorial.

See how adorably cute this is? Valentine’s Day has continued to become more and more fun as time passes by, but as a mom, there’s always that difficulty in finding the perfect costume for our babies. You might get lots of opinions from people around you and wonder if you’ll go this route or that route. My ultimate advice is to always follow what you think benefits your kiddo and of course, you, and choose that!

All moms are unique in their own way and if you’re like me who wants to save and not splurge too much on one-time things and wants to craft something creative and cute, this kid’s cupid costume might just be your savior.

For my wings, I printed out a wing shape via Google image. Then I cut them out of cardstock. I folded the coffee filters in quarters and started taping them on. I started with the bottom of the wing and kept layering.

I attached the two wings with packing tape.

In the end, I used more packing tape to attach 4 pieces of ribbon so I could tie them gently at his arms.

The wings were super easy and all I used: cardstock, coffee filters, tape, and the ribbon.

Hooray! And now you have a charming little costume for your baby. I suggest adding a cute bow and arrow to go with this as well if you want that extra finishing touch. But for now, this was perfect for us.

I thoroughly enjoy dressing up Teddy in adorable costumes and Valentines’ Day surely is not an exception! He’s now picture-ready and ready to conquer the world by giving out loads of love and chocolates for everyone.

Also, if you want your little one to dress as cupid for class, please feel free to find a matching red shirt or white one perhaps for this. I hope you enjoy this simple and endearing Cupid Costume that you can make at home!

So how many years do you think I can keep dressing Teddy as Cupid for Valentine’s Day?
