Free Printable Seed Journal for Kids

April 23, 2020

Happy Earth Day! I thought today would be a fun day to share how we’ve been starting seeds and learning about plants the past week. I made a seed journal for the kids that they’re really liking. I think it makes them much more interested in caring about their plants: watering, watching and waiting for them to grow. And… we have plenty of time to watch seeds grow while stuck home this spring.

We did beans, peas and sunflowers. Since we can’t go out to the store, I got the only packets they had at our local farm where we get curbside groceries. Then, a sweet neighbor dropped sunflower seeds in everyone’s mailbox to have a “sunflower growing contest” on the block as something happy to work on while we are all apart. Then once we can hang out as neighbors again (hopefully end of summer) she’s giving a prize to whoever grows the biggest sunflower. The kids are all so excited about the contest.

If you are going to have your kids plant seeds, I’m sharing a video for kids to watch about how seeds grow. I love something that keeps them busy at the computer a few min while I can at least enjoy a cup of coffee! The video was sent by Alex’s teacher and all 4 of mine enjoyed it. I’m also sharing an easy flower craft and the free printable seed journal. Happy Planting!

Easy Paper Plate Flower Craft

Supplies:

  1. Paper plate
  2. Popsicle stick (or stick from outside, a straw, anything that can be a stem)
  3. Green paper
  4. Paint or markers
  5. Scissors
  6. Glue

Directions: First decorate the paper plate to be your flower. You can use paint or markers (you’ll see examples of both in our photos). Paint or color the popsicle stick green. Cut out some leaves from the green paper. Once the plate it dry, cut around the edges of the plate to make it look more like petals. Glue the popsicle stick to the back of the plate and glue the leaves onto the stick (the stem!).

Now you have a pretty flower you don’t have to worry about watering!
