Rainbow-Themed Art Activities for Preschoolers

May 1, 2020

Are you looking for fun crafts and activities for your 7-11 year-olds or even younger? These are the ages where learning is very crucial for them and you need to be hands-on with the way you’re teaching them.

What better way to help them practice their fine motor skills and also add a little fun craft project for them to use than this Rainbow Craft Ideas for Preschoolers and Kids of all ages.

Younger or older kids will benefit from this art project a lot! If you and your kids love rainbows as much as we do, then you need to try this rainbow art project out.

Rainbow Crafts & Activities for Kids

During our first week home, we followed people across the nation and the world by hanging rainbows in our windows. We loved how they looked and enjoyed spotting rainbows in other people’s windows when we were out or walking.

Rainbows are a symbol of hope and make us happy when we look at them and the message that the Italians added with the rainbows in their windows “Andrà Tutto bene” is what I keep telling my kids: everything will be alright.

We have continued making rainbows since that first week. Making rainbow crafts and sharing them here on the blog and Instagram is fun for me and the kids. Today I’m sharing 3 more fun ideas for easy rainbow crafts to try at home. One even starts as a science experiment so you can check off both science and art for your distance learning day.

In addition to making rainbows, my girls have wanted to wear rainbows more than ever. The cute rainbow dresses in this post are both from Pink Chicken, our favorite! They are beautiful dresses but also super comfortable for days at home and playing in the yard. Pink Chicken has these rainbow dresses and some adorable rainbow swimsuits too.

We’re so excited to share this fun craft with you also, don’t be afraid to get creative!

Rainbow Crafts For Kids

Paper Plate Rainbow Craft

Supplies:

  • Paper plate
  • Rainbow colored markers
  • Cotton balls
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Directions: Start by cutting a paper plate in half. Then use half a paper plate to make your rainbow. Color the plate with the markers. Last glue on some cotton ball clouds or small white-colored pom poms to add the finished look.

Magic Rainbow Activity

Supplies:

  • Paper towels
  • Black Sharpie
  • Rainbow-colored washable markers
  • Spray bottle with water

Directions:

Directions: First, draw a rainbow on the paper towel with the markers. Next trace over the rainbow with the black sharpie. Next, spray the paper towel with water and watch the rainbow appear.

The colors will run so put something under the paper towel (paper plate, old towel, etc). Or just do the project outside!

You’ve done science: watching colors blend, water travel, and how the permanent marker stays while the washable markers do not. Now let the rainbow dry and you have a lovely piece of tie-dye art to hang!

Giant Rainbows

Supplies:

  • Rainbow colored paints
  • Large roll of paper: we used a roll of brown craft paper but the back of a roll of wrapping paper would work too

Directions: Roll out the paper as long as you’d like and get to work painting a rainbow. We found it easiest to draw out the rainbow with a pencil first. As soon as we have no rain in the forecast, we plan to hang this on the front of our house.
