The Chirping Moms

Guest Post: Holiday Treat Boxes

December 11, 2012

We are so excited to have Natalie from Two Preps in a Pod guest posting on the blog today & sharing her wonderful Holiday Treat Boxes!

During the Holiday season, one of my favorite activities is baking. I enjoy the abundance of peppermint, gingerbread, and chocolate. I love trying new recipes and sharing my wares with friends and family. This year, my sister and I are collaborating on Holiday Treat Boxes for around a dozen families. Here’s how we plan to execute! I hope it helps as you commence your holiday baking.

First and foremost, you’ll need to decide how many boxes you’ll be making. We decided that five was a good variety of items to include in our boxes. We wanted to incorporate those holiday flavors of peppermint and gingerbread. We also had the following criteria to ensure variety.

  • A treat with nuts (Of course, make sure you know if your recipients have any allergies).
  • A treat that is dipped.
  • A type of bark
  • A type of cookie.
  • A treat with chocolate.

Even with criteria, it was still a challenge to decide on final recipes. There are so many choices. You don’t want to pick up 5 recipes that all need to be scooped out. You’ll want to pick some items that you can bake off in a pan and cut later. We decided on the following treats, pinned for your convenience!

Mint Chocolate Brownies – We will be baking these off in mini cupcake tins. I tested this recipe. It was good as is, but we decided to add some chocolate chunks as well as use salted butter when we make it for the box.

S’Mores Bark – I know what you may be thinking. Aren’t S’mores more of a summertime treat? Perhaps. However my friends and I have been known to make s’mores in our fireplaces during the holidays. So why not include this?

Each box will have 4 for each items. We’ll have to double the recipes to get enough yield. Each treat will be packaged in a cellophane bag and labeled. My sister found treat boxes at the Dollar Tree. We went more budget friendly with our packaging choices. However, be sure to check out etsy for more upscale and personalized packaging ideas.
Our plan is to have an all day baking marathon at our mom’s house/childhood home. We won’t be baking till closer to Christmas. However, I’ll be sure to update everyone on my blog, Two Preps in a Pod, as to the end result.
I hope this will inspire you to do some holiday baking of your own! Happy Holidays!

That is a great idea. Pioneer Woman on Food Network does a mix treat basket and it reminded me of hers. Great mix of variety.

I plan on baking/making all weekend too and giving stuff to my coworkers, the mailman, and of course, my neighbors!
