Easy Christmas Craft for Kids: Nutcracker Toy Soldier Ornament

December 20, 2018

By: Ali McNulty

This craft is an oldie but a goodie!  Believe it or not, I made one of these toy soldier ornaments back in 1983!  It hangs on my mom’s Christmas tree to this day. With the new Disney’s Nutcracker and the Four Realms movie being released, thought it was the perfect time to bring the Nutcracker Toy Soldier Ornament back!

Nutcracker Toy Soldier Ornament

Supplies:

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Styrofoam ball
  • Wrapping paper
  • Ribbon
  • Pom poms
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue/Mod Podge
  • Hole punch

Directions: Cut a piece of wrapping paper to fit the toilet paper roll, with a little extra around the top.  Glue the paper along the bottom of the roll and up the side. Tuck the little extra paper at the top into the inside of the roll.  Cut another small piece of wrapping paper in a half moon shape. Glue that piece onto the bottom of the toilet paper roll to make the brim of the soldier’s hat. Glue the styrofoam ball to the bottom of the roll.  Glue on googly eyes. Glue the pom poms onto the hat. Glue a piece of ribbon along the bottom of the hat. Use the hole punch to punch two holes at the top of the hat. String a piece of ribbon through the two holes and hang on your tree  (hopefully for many, MANY years to come, too!)
