DIY Costumes: Adorable Duos That Are Easy to Make

September 29, 2019

I’ll be adding to this post over the next month with more adorable DIY costume duos. So check back! Need to include more than 2 people? Check out these fun DIY group costumes:

Easy to Make DIY Costumes for a Duo

Easy DIY Dinosaur Costumes:

What’s a cuter duo than a pair of dinosaur brothers? This may be the easiest, most cost effective DIY costume I have ever made. It was done SO fast and you can easily remove the “dino spikes” if you’d like and then you have a hoodie and sweats to wear all year long.

Supplies:

  1. Hooded Sweatshirts (we used these from Primary.com)
  2. Matching sweatpants (we used these from Primary.com)
  3. Visit this post to see how we paired it with a DIY lion
  4. Scissors

Directions: Fold the sticky velcro sheet in half and cut out long triangles. You should have 2 triangles the same size. Peel off the back paper and stick the 2 triangles together leaving the bottom inch or 2 NOT stuck together. Use those sticky pieces to stick the triangle to the back, center of the hoodie. Repeat until you have a straight line of triangle “spikes” down the entire back of the hoodie. Continue the process over the head of the hoodie.

For the dino feet: Trace a semi circle (more like an oval) on the sticky felt. It should be about the size of the child’s shoe you will be covering. Cut it out. In a different color sticky felt, cut out small triangles to decorate the feet. Cut out 3 more triangles to be the dino’s claws and stick them on too. Last peel the paper off the back of the semi circle and stick the whole “dino foot” onto your child’s shoe.

DIY Greatest Showman Costume + a circus friend:

We made this costume a few years ago and since my kids have started to all love the movie The Greatest Showman. This is an easy costume to make for a child and then you can pick a variety of other circus characters for the other part of the duo. Visit this post to see how we paired it with a DIY lion, but there are lots of possibilities!

Supplies:

  1. Red Peasant Top (this one if from Primary.com)
  2. Black pants (these are from Primary.com)
  3. Black shoes (found these on Babychelle.com)
  4. Black hat
  5. Gold trim and buttons to decorate (found on Amazon)
  6. White gloves
  7. Hoop or whip (please keep safety in mind!)

Directions: I used the gold trim I found on Amazon to make 3 stripes across the top of the tunic. I used hot glue to secure it. Then I used hot glue to add the gold buttons at the end of the gold trim. Then we added in all the accessories!

DIY Dolphin and Dolphin Trainer Costume

A few years ago we made a DIY dolphin trainer costume. Since then it’s been one of the most popular posts on the blog! This year, I decided to make a simple DIY dolphin costume to match. For the dolphin trainer costume, visit this post: DIY Dolphin Trainer.

And here’s how to make a dolphin:

Supplies:

  • Grey hoodie from Primary.com
  • Grey sweatpants from Primary.com
  • Black and white sticky felt
  • 2 large grey foam sheets
  • scissors and glue

Directions:

This is a very comfy costume! It’s basically a grey sweatshirt and sweatpants. Great for kids that don’t want an itchy, scratchy halloween costume. Fold one of the foam sheets in half. Trace the shape of a dolphin fin, adding a few inches on the bottom.  Cut it out (it’s folded, so you’ll have 2). Glue the 2 pieces together, leaving the bottom few inches not glued. Fold those pieces out and glue them to the hoodie (see photos). Using the other foam sheet, fold it in half and trace the shape of a dolphin nose. Cut it out, you will have 2. Glue them to either side of the hood. Last use the 2 sticky foam sheets to make the dolphin’s eyes and stick them to the hood too. Now dive in for a fin flippin’ fun Halloween!
