The Chirping Moms

Simple Preschool Activities at Home: A Free Series

September 16, 2020

Over the past 6 months, I’ve watched our Google and Pinterest analytics: based on what you are all searching, viewing and saving, there are millions of moms in search of simple preschool activities at home. In addition, I get weekly emails and Instagram DMs asking the same thing too. I realize the blog and my Instagram highlight reels could be way more organized… so if anyone wants that job, let me know! In the meantime, I decided to start a weekly series of simple preschool activities at home for all of us moms stuck home over the next year. The themes will be geared towards ages 2-5 but can be enjoyed by any age!

Simple Preschool Activities at Home

This weekly series will focus on simple preschool activities at home. Each week there will be a theme and to go along with that theme: books, sensory play, crafts, science, snacks, quiet time activities and more. If you are doing preschool at home this year, this will be a FREE guide for your weeks. If your child will be going to preschool, this will be fun activities for them to do to keep them busy while at home. Also, if you have a 1/2 day Kindergartner like me, these are great for them too!

Ready to join the preschool activities at home fun?

Step 1: Visit our “Quiet Time Box” post to prep a few of these

Step 2: Click here for week 1. I’ll keep this post updated with all the themes so you can do any order you’d like!

Step 3: Follow @thechirpingmoms on Instagram and #chirpingpreschoolthemes

If you have older siblings these weekly guides will be simple enough for them to grab ideas and do with the preschool age children while you work and get things done. What I found most helpful while we were home last school year was having some structure in the house. Having 7 people home all the time can get crazy pretty fast and with no plan, it wasn’t working. Having even a few things written down that the kids could “check off” throughout the week gave a little bit of structure.

I’m hoping that this series is just that: a little structure to make life a little easier and a little more fun. You can browse the list and pick one thing a week or do the whole list. I’ll also have links if you are looking for even more.

How I choose the activities: I am not a preschool teacher. I have had 4 kids go to a wonderful preschool and have learned along the way. I also love kids crafts, books and activities. Many of the things listed in this series will be my favorite crafts and activities from the blog over the years. I also polled lots of moms, asking what they’d be looking for this year. I read a lot this summer, pinned and planned.

I think that there are a few things that kids 2-4 will miss out on while home a lot over the next 6 months: socialization, sensory play, sharing and exploring new things. I also think that it’s SO hard to get kids interested in “quiet time” for parents when they have been in the house already for so many hours. These are all things I considered when making up this series.

Oh and one of my favorite last minute additions: a tv show or movie to go with the theme. Hopefully this part will buy you a little free time mamas!

Each week I’ll also suggest a few things to buy. Instead of a giant list of favorite toys, this will space it out, go with the theme or just be what’s currently “saving my sanity”. Of course you don’t have to buy the items to enjoy that week’s theme, but if you’re looking for new things to entertain and use for quiet time, it will hopefully help.

I hope you enjoy it and please PLEASE send me messages on what you enjoy each week and what is missing. I also love seeing pictures of you all trying these crafts and activities, so tag @thechirpingmoms if you remember!
