Stuck at Home? Activities, Free Printables & More

March 17, 2020

I’m on day 5 of being stuck at home with all the kids and also on day 5 home from the hospital with a new baby.  So, if anyone appreciates some easy ways to entertain kids, get school work done and try not to go crazy… I’m your gal. Today I’ve got a VERY simple list of easy activities, free printables, Amazon finds and more to hopefully help you all! My kids range from 4-10 so this list should be able to help many of you stuck at home.

Lots of you have reached out on Instagram & email asking how to find activities on the blog or things I suggest. This list today is meant to be nice & simple and not overwhelm. If you enjoy and would like more over the next few weeks: first, make sure to follow along on Pinterest and browse some of the boards. Next, follow along on Instagram as that’s the easiest place for me to share daily things I find/ we do. Finally, I’lll be updating the blog a few times a week with craft posts, book activities, etc. Most will be old posts “come back to life” because… newborn + 4 other kids at home 🙂 There will also be guest posts and some new stuff too. Be sure you are getting our weekly newsletter (sign up here). Now for the list!

Stuck at Home? Activities, Free Printables and Amazon Finds

1.) Free Printable Activity Calendars & Spring Bucket. List : ALL AGES

More of these to come! But to start, here is March and April. These are fun for ideas on activities to do and also just to print and hang up to give bigger kids that can read somewhat of a list of things to do if they are bored. These were created previously, so obviously if it says something like “go to the movies” ignore. When you click the link, you will find the free printable activity calendars (and a bucket list) AND a list of the activities below it that will link to “how to’s” if necessary.

50 Things to Do This Spring: A Printable Bucket List

2.) Reward Charts: Free Printable Chore Chart for Kids…. because if they’re home, they better be helping out around the house! And here is a Screen Time Tracker: no judgement on how much screen time you give BUT if you’re looking for a way to have the kids track/earn more time or a reward, this is a fun chart to print and use.

3.) 2 Easy Science Experiments: Rainbow Eruption and Sink or Float Science with free printable sheet

4.) Need a cheerful book? Here’s a list of some “books that make us smile” and all are available on Amazon Prime.

5.) Rainbows & Unicorns: Need a happy cheerful craft? Try this Unicorn Paper Plate craft or this Rainbow Craft (this one has a video kids can follow) Or just get some rainbow color paint and try this MESS FREE painting activity: Mess Free Painting

6.) Book Reports: I’m working on a new one that I will share, but in the meantime here are 2 simple sheets I made to print for kids as they read. I like the simple ones that they can fill in quickly to track the books they read. This first one is good for all ages because little kids can draw in the answer and bigger kids can use the box to write in an answer: Simple Book Report (click here to print)

This one we used for a kids book club and the questions came from a teacher. This is good for kids to fill or for you to use to just ask them questions about books as they read: Book Chat Printable

7.) Fun Animal Crafts & Fact Sheets:

Spring Chick Craft // Earthworm Facts // Shark Facts // Sponge Painting Chick Craft // Puppy Dog Paper Bag Puppet // Lion Footprint Craft // 10 Ocean Animal Themed Activities for Kids

8.) Amazing Educational Resources: Love this! So many great sites for different ages. It’s a list of education companies offering free subscriptions due to school closings.

9.) Best blog post roundup: I’ve seen A LOT of lists shared the past few days and have tried to check out as many as I can. So far I think this list from Angela, Teaching Mama, is the most comprehensive, especially if you have a preschooler or kindergartner because Angela is sharing her complete alphabet packet for free. There are also cool printable cards/ an idea for an easy to follow, not overwhelming “schedule”.

10.) Quiet Time Boxes: This post (click here) is geared towards preschool quiet time boxes but you can easily adjust a bit for older or younger kids. These would be GREAT to have on hand, maybe 1-3 per child, so they have a go to box of stuff to do when YOU need some quiet time.

11.) Go Noodle: My big kids use Go Noodle at school and love it. If you have Roku, you can easily add it as an app there for free. I am sure there are other ways to access on the tv or you can use your computer too. At school, my girls use for a “brain break” – these are fun ways to get out energy. Today all 4 of my kids were doing the Macarena in sync thanks to Go Noodle!

12.) Some Amazon finds: Here are a few things I have ordered and the rest are finds my friend Meghan sent me that I will be adding to my cart:

We got…..This is my list of items trying to spend the least amount of money to entertain kids 4-10

  1. Osmo: This is AMAZING and has been a huge hit with all of the kids. I will do a full post on it soon but highly recommend for ages 3-12.
  2. Roller Blades (adjustable so differnt size kids can share)
  3. Play Doh: set of multiple colors and Frozen playset
  4. Dry Erase Board and Dry Erase Markers
  5. New bath toys including this: Waterfall Tracks
  6. Melissa & Doug Puffy Sticker Sets
  7. Markers!
  8. Rainbow Floss (mainly for the 8-10 year olds)
