Easy DIY Costumes for Kids

October 21, 2024

Looking for a costume that’s big on fun but light on effort? We’ve got you covered! I’ve rounded up my favorite easy DIY costumes for kids from over the years and added some fun ones that I just made this year.

Whether your little one wants to be a superhero, a spooky ghost, or something in between, these easy DIY costumes will have them ready for action in no time. No need to break the bank or spend hours at the sewing machine—just grab a few items from around the house and let the creativity flow. Get ready for a Halloween filled with fun, flair, and a lot of “How did you make that?!” moments!

Easy DIY Frankenstein Costume

This year’s Frankenstein costume is not just spooky but practical too! With a DIY twist, everything but the monster’s iconic “head” can be worn again through the chilly winter months. From cozy layers to warm accessories, you won’t have to put this outfit away after Halloween. But the real standout? His Frankenstein @nike sneakers that add an unexpected, stylish touch to the classic look. They’re perfect for stomping through trick-or-treat night in comfort and flair.

Of course, the face paint is essential—he’s thrilled to go all out with green skin, channeling his inner monster. With every detail in place, he can’t wait to see the reactions as he lumbers into the room, hoping to send chills down everyone’s spine. It’s all about mixing fun, fear, and fashion this Halloween!

Easy DIY Olympic Athlete Costume

Ready to go for the gold? After this summer in Paris there are lots of Olympians to celebrate and dress up as. Transform your child into a DIY Olympic athlete with a look that says they’re here to win. Think red, white and blue athletic clothes you have at home. Accessorize with a sweatband for that dedicated athlete vibe, and grab some medals—I ordered some from Amazon but you can also go homemade with ribbon and shiny cardboard. Bonus points if you bring a tiny dumbbell, because heavy lifting is for actual Olympians.

Want something fun for your kids and dog to be together? This was my favorite costume we did with our sweet pup Jersey. The kids were all dressed as robbers and our dog was the cop! Details here.

Group Costumes for Kids

Disney fans in the house? Go with the classics for a group costume and dress up as Mickey, Minnie and pals. Here’s how we made Mickey & Pals costumes for all the kids.

Speaking of Disney… another favorite group costume we did was Toy Story.

Book Themed Costumes

At many schools, Halloween parades include dressing as your favorite book character. If that’s the case in your school, we’ve got you covered. Here’s how we dressed up as some of our favorite book characters: Book Themed Costumes
